The mighty Broadstreet U13s were back on the road again playing against Old Laurentians, a team that previous 13 fiercely fought battles.
This was always going to be a tough test for Broadstreet U13s with only a small squad traveling which meant just the 1 sub and 5 players carrying small injuries. Old Laurentians were well represented and had clearly moved up a level from last season and they dominated the early exchanges scoring two quick tries. For any other team heads would have gone down at the point, but the mighty U13s dug in and started to play some of the best rugby we have seen from them, fantastic scrummaging, and rucking from our forwards of Donnie, Nails, Ethan, Dan, Henry and Rueben started to push the Old Laurentians side further back and made them fear the contact areas. The scrum was particularly dominant with every scrum won, regardless of put ins. This huge effort soon paid off with tries from Henry, Dec, Will (who gave a great performance despite carrying an injury) and then a second from Dec with a great piece of individual skills after a kick through from Zac. Second half our lack of players started to really count as injuries meant that for large proportions of the second half we played with a man short, eventually and inevitably giving space for Old Laurentians scoring their third. Defending a one try lead the Mighty U13s defending like demons hitting every tackle and every ruck with so much passion and determination even the opposition supporters started to clap. Eventually and heartbreakingly, with only 30 seconds left on the refs very slow watch, Old Laurentians breached the defence and scored an equalizing try.
We kept our unbeaten record and although a draw the Mighty U13s played one of their most passionate and committed game that garnered compliments and applauds from the opposition fans and coaches. A game to be proud off, showing no matter what the circumstances Mighty U13s never give up. Broadstreet U13s 20 - Old Laurentians 20
